Using phosphoric acid in your mash or sparge water will lower the pH level. Phosphoric acid is very concentrated and does not require a lot to lower the pH water. Water chemistry is very different from city to city. This is why there is no real mixing ratio for phosphoric acid.
Recommended usage
- The recommended usage for Calgary water is approximately .2 – 1ml Phosphoric Acid/4.5L water.
Alternatively, use one drop at a time, mix, verify your ph using pH meter or pH strip and repeat until you get the required pH level.
Recommended pH level
- Mash water: Between a pH of 5.4 to 5.8
- Sparge water: pH of 6
